BEST OF THE BEST FOR A CLASSIC COPCYCLE JACKET

first off, my personal favorite is another Taylor, the LAPD jacket which i wear with a faux fur collar. it's just a style preference, but i collect these (and wear them) and wanted the slantzipper with crossover lapel iconic 4473Z, recognized as one of the most classic police motorcycle jackets.

aside from my style preference for the LAPD, both are of the best style and construction. at 6', 175 lb i bought my 48L (equal to an XL long) from a police dept sale years ago. It lay scrunched up for years, unworn by both me and the pd that sold it to me. unscrunching it to wear after recalling i had it, the first thing i noticed was the premium leather had no marks whatsoever after several years at the bottom of a pile of leather jackets. the thing looks brand new.

there's a huge difference between wearing it with the inner liner, which turns this into a very warm cold-weather jacket equal to any parka. but being in L.A., taking out the liner yields a super lightweight but super strong flexible leather that can be worn on 70 degree fall or early spring days...3 seasons.

super comfortable for coffee or movie nights, the bi-swing and long arms of my 48L (or XLL) keep reaching for handlebars as unrestricted as if not wearing a jacket.

i love the LAPD style and get many compliments and stares, but this is such a sweet jacket it threatens my jacket hierarchy. i recommend getting this Taylor version of the classic motorcycle jacket over any other maker's.

Excellent motorcycle jacket at great price

I was a motor officer back in the 1990s and we used the NYPD Highway coats. I still have it, years after retirement but I can’t really wear it for civilian purposes. It’s not appropriate for “civilian” use. You need a gun belt to hold it together and, yeah, I can’t do that!

Over the years for personal riding, I’ve owned Schott, Vanson, and HD jackets. I bought a Taylor Leatherwear Pittsburgh jacket recently for personal use and frankly, it’s pretty awesome. It left me wondering why anyone would pay twice the price for a Schott or Vanson.

The size 46 NYPD coat and Pittsburgh jacket fit about the same with a lot of extra room in the upper chest and shoulder areas, unlike the Vanson CHP and Schott Perfecto I owned. I currently own a HD FXRG jacket which binds up in the shoulders most of all.

If you’re a civilian who wants a basic high quality, functional leather riding jacket for half the price of “premium” leather jackets, you should consider these.
